The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) was formed by the Department of Atomic Energy to foster the development of higher mathematics in the country, help in the establishment and development of mathematics centres and give financial assitance to research projects and to doctoral and post-doctoral scholars. NBHM has recognised the Institute Library as the Regional Centre for Mathematics for the Southern region. This regional centre was set up in 1992 at JRD Tata Memorial Library.
The main aim of NBHM is to provide library facilities to research workers in mathematics and the faculty of the Universities and academic institutions for reference, to provide facility for xeroxing of research papers and inter
library loan facility.
The amount sanctioned by NBHM is fully utilised for acquiring books and journals in Mathematics. JRD Tata Memorial Library is acting as a service library for all mathematicians of the Southern region.
